It's Katharine's AMAZING new album. I got it as a treat form myself (from itunes though as I couldn't find it in HMV). It has a great mix of sounds with electric guitar as well as hauting vocals and the tracks are so beautiful and poetic. Go out and buy it! My favourite tracks include "The Hour When Daylight Dies" "Higher" and "Maiden of the Mountain Deep"

Yes, Katharine's album is definitely a treat for fans of her work! It's a hauntingly beautiful allbum that is the essence of her style. You can hear some guest Baebes on some of the tracks, as well as the wonderful Nick Marsh. My favorite tracks are This Harp, Which I Wake Now for Thee, Maiden of the Mountain Deep, and Song of the Twilight Faeries.

It really is a beautiful album and I was lucky enough to see Kat play live a few weeks back in London - a magical evening :D

A great album & I really enjoy listening to it. No particular favourites as they all have their own very special quality. "Higher" reminds me of something by somebody - what or who just won't come to mind so I will just keep on listening until the penny drops. With very best regards, Cheers, Pat.

Re my post 280108. Have been racking my brain & the only track that has sprung to mind is another "single lyric" song is by Loreena McKennitt from the album The Mask And Mirror & is called Santiago. OK, it is a vocalisation not a proper word but at least I won't now wake up screaming in the small hours. Cheers.

What with all of the hurly-burly going on about Illumination recently I re-visited Midnight Flower today. It was very interesting to compare the two. If you have a bit of spare time on your hands try playing them back-to-back on random play.

Hey Pat;

When I got Illumination it was dumped into an itunes playlist that already had All the Baebes that is, Midnight Flower, and a few Celtic legends Lyonesse tracks. It's easy to see that a huge chunk of the character of the Mediaeval Baebes lies with Katharine and also I think with Bev Lee.

If you love Baebes, You'll love Midnight Flower.

Hi T,
Yes, you can hear the influences flowing across. I've also been listening to MSG recently & elements appear from there as well. Of course, Katharine's voice & phrasing is fundamental to all of them. I would love her to do some more in the style of Havana Lied, perhaps covers of the numbers from Cabaret. Hmmm, the Baebes in a Weimar Republic-era night club, sehr schoen, ich habe ein traum.......... :D

Well, it finally happened LOL! I ordered Midnight Flower last night after listening to some samples on cdbaby.com .... I have to say I like what I heard ;) Can I just comment that I love Katharine's vocal sound ? She has this lovely warm fuzziness about her... :D

Can't wait until I get it! ;)

Love,
Phantas

Ah my favourite Baebe....I drunkingly accost this woman at every gig! Poor thing....and she's still so nice! A tremendous talent and Suspiria (MSG) possibly one of the best albums ever made.....as well as illumination of course!!!

Did anyone manage to catch Kat at witchfest?

Well TSW, you convinced me to back track a bit and I gathered up all the Miranda work. Suspiria, Iris, Madra and Fairytales of Slavery. So far I'm thrilled. Though, I can see I'll have to save these playlists for private times. When I first got Suspiria I fired it up at work. Everyone who walked into my office developed some odd wracked facial expression.

"Uncultured Swine!!!"

Makes me want to smack them upside the head with their Kenny Chesney CD's.

Kat still shines through in a lot of ways as she always does but it does point out the beauty of things that are blended ( like a fine scotch eh? ). The Baebe are not really dominated by any one sound but the sum of the parts is exceeded by the whole.

After a bunch of listens, I think Madra is my favorite. Rapid fire, going in a million different directions yet all moving together like a flock of doves.

I've been doing a lot of Anglo-Saxon coin replica work these days and Madra inspired a new avatar.

If the rumors about resurrecting MSG are true I'm all in.
