Since everyone seems to be interested in promoting the Baebes, I thought I'd offer my knowledge and advice on ways for us fans to help out. We're not the Baebes managers nor should we try to tell their managers (or the Beabes!) how to do their jobs. All the girls should worry about is being spectacular and pleased with their work. We are fans who appreciate and have been greatly affected by their music, so what can we do to reach the masses and tell them about such amazing artists? Make use of the Internet!

I'm a Web/Graphic designer, and I'm currently teaching myself the ways of Web 2.0 (social networking, social bookmarking, etc..etc..). The powers of Web 2.0 are endless, and with enough people taking part, it could make a difference in getting the word out. Many of us are tied to our computers for work, anyway, so why not make use of the powers we have right in front of us?

Here are some things I've been doing over the years to promote many things, including Mediaeval Baebes, that you can do as well!

- Here are a list of Social Bookmarking sites you can join and add Baebe-related links to. Remember to add descriptive keywords like “medieval music, classical music, mediaeval baebes, katharine blake” or whatever you think is relevant:

http://delicious.com
http://www.squidoo.com
http://www.stumbleupon.com
http://digg.com
http://www.furl.net
http://www.technorati.com
http://tagfoot.com
Tons more
Even more!

- Have a Myspace profile? Add a Baebes image or banner to your About Me section! The important part is making that image link to the Baebes website. If anyone needs instruction on how to do this, I'd be glad to help. I could even whip a banner up for those of us on this forum if anyone is interested.

- Facebook anyone? I am pretty loyal to Myspace, but my friends kept bugging me to join Facebook. And it has its own potential similar to Myspace. So join, post links to Baebes songs, YouTube videos, their website, myspace profiles... don't forget to add links to their solo projects, as well!

- Go crazy networking if you want!

These are all pretty easy tools to use once you get set up. Basically, the more places the Mediaeval Baebes show up on different websites, the more hits they should get on their websites. So join a lot! Even if you think you can't keep track of them all (I know I can't!). This is a free, fast and easy way to advertise. Social networking allows you to speak your mind, so talk about upcoming Baebes gigs, their new album, anything! Just don't be too overwhelming or send tons and tons of the same message (that's spamming!)

Hope this helps!

Great post! Now that's a way to promote the band. Thumbs up.

Thanks for a very informative & comprehensive post. I, for one, shall certainly give it a go. Cheers, :D

Glad to help! I just hope it wasn't too long-winded. Putting clicky things in long messages helps break up the monotony, at least :)

Not to forget Last.fm, a lot music lovers - it was my way to find the band. A few weeks ago, Nettwerk America has the albums 'Undrentide', 'Mirabilis', 'Mistletoe & Wine' and 'The Rose' uploaded, as 'full length edition'. This means, now are all albums playable in webbrowser - streaming airplay generates return for the band :-). The Eventpage is uptodate and has partly more details than the official tour-page. If someone needs a music-example as recommendation for someone - click here.
(no, I do not have any of those shares.)

Great posts all!

I can't agree more with using Facebook.. Since my highschool reunion this past summer, my classmates and I have continued the fun by connecting there... My Myspace page has been left to rot because Facebook seems so much more interactive...

Good one, frederik! I have Last.fm playing all day while I work...cannot live without it!

I've recently started using facebook more because it seems a little dead over at myspace. And I also like how it's easier to find your old classmates! The Baebes are over on facebook, too.

And for those who haven't found it yet, even though it's on the homepage, here are the Baebes on Myspace.

There's this great site called Ning where anyone can start a social network. Might be something we can make use of.

I was inspired, so I made a simple banner for everyone to use on their profiles and websites if they want. Just plop this code into any HTML editor (any section of the edit layout area on Myspace, for example):

Here's the code

Credit to James Sutton for the photography! Hope it's okay.

P.S: Pat the Photographfriar - if you're reading this - i hope you don't mind me using your 18th May footage from youtube on my page, found it doing a search for live MB music

For people who love music, starting an ezine is a fine way to help promote music that you love. I have no web skills, but back in 2003 I found a friend who created and updated my site. Just last year, another friend who is a web designer converted it over to wordpress, and I can update anytime.
For the past six years I have covered underground music, reviewing CD's, concerts, and club nights. The ezine is free, and though I did purchase ad space in a magazine for a couple of years, I rely primarily on word of mouth. I accept no paid advertising. Though this is not a professional endeavor by any means, I have readers literally all over the world.
Another good way to promote music is to write reviews. Most underground ezines and magazines are hobbies such as mine, and the editors are usually happy to get people who will write reviews/articles.
Also, request your favorite songs at local club nights, and take a copy for the DJ. In the goth/industrial scene where I am most active, many people are fans of Early Music, and bands such as Dead Can Dance are a staple. I usually include several Baebes songs with material I take to my DJ friends.

Best Regards,
Aiden
