With the lack of air play on main stream Radio and TV (even more so with the demise of Classic FM tv) It makes me wonder some times how people will get to to know of the Baebes and there music, except from word of mouth so to speak.
For me it was a simple case of Watching BBC seris called 'the Celts' got into liking Enya , lookiing for her on the TV music chanels ended up watching Classic FM tv then seeing the Mediaeval Baebes sing Temptasyon totally hooked bought the album almost straight away totaly blew me away then did something never done with any other music artist; bought 3 albulms at the sametime; and that is my history my only regret is I missed them from the start

I used to listen to Elaine Paige's sunday show on BBC Radio 2 about musicals, and she played "The Work of the Lord" from The Virgin Queen, and I thought it was the most wonderful sound, so I tried to get the song everywhere without luck, but got the 'Best Of' album and Mirabilis, and fell in love!

Then I got The Work of the Lord recently. Love it :)

For me, it was a serendipitous moment whilst browsing through the CDs at a Barnes & Noble bookstore. The name Mediaeval Baebes caught my eye, as the word "mediaeval" always does, as did the artwork for The Rose, which I quickly grabbed a copy of and purchased right away. I've been enjoying their music for 6 years now, due to that fateful experience!

10 years ago, sitting, bored, in a hotel room (Southampton I think) and reading the Telegraph after breakfast - large article about/interview with this "new band" and their debut album. Particular mention was made of one of my favorite songs - "Lyke Wake Dirge", so I went out and bought Salva Nos (silver cover) a few days later.

Been there ever since!

And "This Aye Nicht" is still one of my favourites! Shame we don't hear it live these days.

Now, I wonder if the Baebes would ever record "Agincourt Carol"? :D

Raedwald, I second you on the Baebes making a version of the Agincourt Carol. I've bunged the lyrics down somewhere on this forum.
Isn't Sutton Hoo pre-mediaeval?

I was at a coven meeting in Wales years ago and a friend was playing 'I am Eve' & I was instantly blown away by the most hauntingly beautiful sound. When I got home I went out straight away and bought 'The Rose'

Yup, found them and agreed there as well!!

As for Sutton Hoo, it depends on your definition of "Mediaeval" I suppose - the Anglo Saxon period is also known (amongst other things) as "Early Mediaeval", so at c625 for the mound1 burial (possibly Raedwald - the status is certainly high enough), it's a couple of hundred years into that period.

It's just one of my favourite historical periods! But I think the music of the later Mediaeval period is a lot better!!
:D

Naxos have some good CD's in their Early Music/Alte Musik catalogue. I would heartily recommend "Music Of The Troubadors" (Naxos 8.554257) & "On The Way To Bethlehem" (Naxos 8.553132).
Yes, the Seventh/Eighth Centuries are extremely interesting but a bit veiled in mystery - that could be the attraction. Cheers, Pat. :D

I was walking through an A&B Sound, once upon a time, and the name Mediaeval Baebes caught my eye as I passed a rack displaying Salva Nos. I picked it up and took a look and skeptically thought something along the lines of, 'Wow, this should be interesting to say the least.' So I bought it.

Upon listening to the disc, I was enthralled with what I heard and fell in love with the Baebes unique style. I remember fearing that they had chosen too unique a niche, in fact, and worried that they would not catch on enough to see more than another album at most.

Now here I am; 10 years, 6 albums and 2 videos later eagerly anticipating the seventh release and hopefully an announcement that the Baebes will return to Calgary so I can see them live for a fourth time.

Thanks for everything, Baebes, present and past!

Article in a newspaper for their show. Unfortunately I saw the add a few days too late. My dad actually was the one who showed me the paper, and then he went and downloaded a few of their songs. Since then I have bought 4 CDs and have been trying to find Salva Nos because nowhere seems to have it. -_-

I was searching the internet for bands similar to In Extremo or Faun. One day I heard an exerpt of "Mirabilis". The Baebes became one of my favourite Bands at once.

It was last year, in June - a Tuesday. I was at work and Last.fm played the station 'similar to Loreena McKennitt'. After some time the song 'Undrentide' came up and I knew: a great discover. At this day I bought my first two mb-albums, 'Mistletoe&Wine' and 'Best of' on iTunes. And heard the 38 songs the whole evening until late after midnight. A musical experience like this was new to me :D. It took only three days for all other albums to buy. And it comes better. In november '07, I saw a fabulous concert in Berlin (pics + review in german).
