I have a review of the "Live" CD at our temporary site.

http://49battn.googlepages.com/

I was fortunate enough to pick up this CD at the Florida Renaissance Festival when the MB performed there,

I never bought the live CD because I thought that most of the tracks might be the same recordings as the ones on the DVD which I did buy. Of course, I could be wrong and they might be different versions, in which case I would definitely buy the live CD. I wonder if anyone in the forum can say if they are the same or different versions.

Cheers

THnaks for your comments on the review! Sine I do it all for free, every comment is worth a lot. I almost did not buy the Live CD, thinking pretty much the same as Sentinel. But when I saw the CD was only available at their events. I picked it off of their table and the lure proved too strong! But I was glad I did. Like Chris said, the bonus tracks are well worth having. I believe the songs are the same ones from the DVD, but the CD only has 15 of them, so it is sort of like having another CD. I also like it because I can play it in the car or when I don't want to put the DVD on. I have burned several personal "greatest hits" CD-R's from their other albums, but this was sort of a treat, a comp I didn't need to make. I wound up liking a few of the songs on "Live" quite a lot, when I was lukewarm about them on the original albums. For me, the Baebes albums are like my passion for History. Though I may be more interested in one particular era at any given time, I eventually always come full circle. Their albums are like that.
I was once hoping to get an interview with Emily, but though that never panned out, reviewing the Live CD was great in itself.

I have recently bought the live CD and I'm surprised that there's no obvious sound of the audience. Have they been edited out of the tracks for some reason? Apart from the title and the notes, there's nothing to indicate that this isn't a studio album. In fact, I did wonder if i had got a studio recording by mistake, but the track listing is the same as the live album!!!

I am reasonably sure that I am not totally deaf and so cannot hear the "live" sounds on the record. But a second opinion would be appreciated, Aiden ...........

"My Lady Sleeps" is probably the most beautiful thing I've ever heard, period. I'd really like to see the lyrics to "As I Lay Upon a Nicht," though - I bought the album off of iTunes, so I don't know if the original had a lyrics booklet or not.

Yes it is true, the film was directed by Ken Russell and stars ex Baebe Marie Findley. The other Baebes appear as unholy revellers. Try Ebay, you may pick it up on there! :D

I bought the Live CD after the 2 Sept 09 show in East hartford, Ct and found the content was from the 1999 Best of CD. Liner notes and CD label indicated the Live CD. Content did not match the track list (Audio tracks start with Gaudete.)

Is this a one of a kind mixup or did an entire rin of CD's get mislabeled ?

Illumination was wonderful, but I'm disappointed about the Live CD. Amazon doesn't have it listed. Does anyone know if there is a MB related site where I can buy the Live CD.

(I've already sent a note to Julia and Claire at peculiar management about this...)

There's definitely a difference between the songs as featured on DVD as well as on CD, compared to the studio recordings, like My Lady Sleepes (gorgeous song!). There's not so much a live sound, but it sounds like it's recorded in a hall - the voices of the Baebes really shine on this album IMHO, they come out so clearly. If you listen carefully you'll notice the difference between the live tracks and the studio tracks ;).

I am very VERY happy the Baebes cut out the live audience sounds....it makes that album just waaaaay more special. You get the Baebes, pure and without too much musical backing, I think the best example of it is "There is no Rose" ... I don't much like the song as a studio recording but the one on the Live cd is sooooo beautiful! The harmony vocals are so divine on that one.

And, to end...I LOVE the album!

Love,
Phantas
