Firstly, I apologise in advance for some of the more 'muso' based questions I may ask around here. I am a musician myself, and am most interested in the Baebes sound as a whole.

So, Buxton. Was ALL that music played live? I have some doubts about the woodwind that Kat was playing. She seemed to pull away whislt the notes were still playing? Or maybe it's my eyesight. Be interested to know though. I had a theory that all the frontline (Baebes) stuff was mimed with only the backline being live. Checked out the soundmans booth via binoculars, and no obvious signs of backing material in there. Hmmmm.

Next, the WONDERFUL threesome on the backline. Tequila Worm, Red shoes Rebecca, and the fab percussionist ('drummer'? Pffft) whose name currently escapes me. Any links for these guys anywhere?

Suggesting the Beabes "lip sync" on a fan forum should go over like a fart in church. It's not likely to be received well by most. I refuse to believe they would and even if they did, why on God's green earth would they admit it here?

That's all I'm saying.

I think they do sing live....listen very carefully and you can hear everything to when they draw breath. Also when I was at gigs they did (Darbuka/Coventry) last year they were testing out some new material and some of the girls where looking at Kat a hell of a lot for direction....now they they don't need to do that as much as they are just so damn good at performing live!!

Also I thought the acoustics in a Cathedral proved that it's all live....could you get a sound like that through backing tracks?

Oh for Gods sake.

I never for a moment suggested that the Baebes were lip synching. How ridiculous. Please read my post again. I was talking about the music.
Patently the ladies were singing - beautifully - and patently the backline musicians were plying their brilliant trade. I'm just curious about the frontline stuff that the Baebes were using, Woodwind, violin. Were those instruments mimed? THAT was the question.

I'm actually insulted that YOU think I was being insulting to what I consider to be an amazing group of female vocalists.

OK. Obviously I owe you a serious apology Chris.

I read "Miming" and "front line" literally. As in the front line of vocalists just making motions but not making sounds as a mime would.

I should know better than to get involved in serious musical conversations. I shall go far away now.

I may be wrong but i agree to some extent with Chris A.

I was sure that the woodwinds were possibly being mimed when i saw the gigs at Rochester and Shoreditch, last year. This in no way detracted from what were beautiful experiences.

All the best

Ah, good. Not just me then. :D

And Sacred Whore: - Yes, I know they CAN play the instruments but that is the very reason for the question. Why were (if) they (were) mimed?

Was this gig in a cathedral? Were the others, as well? Maybe it was the natural acoustics/echo that threw the motions and sound off?

There is no miming. None. Ever. Hope that clears that up.

The musians are : Drums - Ben Woollacott
Guitars etc - Frank Moon
Fiddles etc - Rebecca Dutton

We will endeavour to add more info about these talented folk to our website.

Its our London show tonight so I must away to bathe in asses milk. X

I have a technical explanation....light travels faster than sound so you see something happening before you hear it, so you see Kat stop playing, then you hear the note stop. Also the note will resonate and so the end note keeps going for longer than she is playing the recorder. AS level Physics eh?

Sarah, that makes sense to me. I never thought that the Baebes woulds stoop to "sampling" at live gigs. Shall I take my binos to Christchurch on Sunday??
