Well, I'm not going, but I wonder;

Is the same Ely where the monks sing a merry song as King Cnut's knights row him near by the shore?

Probably, its in the Fens, which is land drained mainly in the seventeenth century. before that it was very marshy and almost inaccesible, Ely was known then as the isle of Ely which might explain the reference to the shore as its many miles (by English standards ie about 50) to the sea. The land is very flat and as the cathedral is built on the slighest of inclines about 2 yards its visible from miles around, quite a spectacular sight. It'll be even more spectacular tonight of coure, cant wait.

Well it was spectacular, no doubt others will say more, I'm rushing off to Paris back hopefully just in time to make it to the Norwich gig.
By the way Ms. Sacred, if you were at the front with a black hat I think I saw you but I'm afraid it takes more courage than I possess to say to a strange woman "are you the sacred whore", you've only got to get it wrong a couple of times!...

Ely is the sublime 'knickers in a twist' of gothic vaulting: coy and glorious both, although is one allowed to become sentimental over structure?

Indeed it was m with the hat which as usual I stole from a fellow fan!!!

The gig was lovely and Ely has to be one of the most stunning Cathedrals I've seen, and I thought the Ely Imps were simply fantastic!
