Wow, Just listened to "One Morning In The Springtime".
Judy Felix/Kate Meulua/Mary Black/The Norwegian-German one from Abba/Kate Rusby all rolled into one!
I think I shall search out some more.
Once again Cheers, :D

Actually no, I'm English but I can see why you might not think so because Ygdrassil are pretty much unknown here, I think. I am aware of their last two albums but I didn't really know what they were like. Since you recommend them, I might order one of them but I'm more likely to order the DVD, Ygdrassil live at the Folkwoods Festival first.

Regarding Laïs, the singing just sounds a little bit harsh for my ear.

An Ygdrassil admirer from England on the MB-forum: great! Ygdrassil toured also in the UK last year, so you had your chance to see what you'll get with 'Live At The Folkwoods Festival'. Excellent choice by the way: a very serene, but honest registration from Ygdrassil's minimal folk. Strangely enough without their brilliant cover of 'The Garden of Jane Delawney' from the great and early 70s folkrock group Trees, but with another cover from a very famous rocking singer-songwriter (I won't tell his name, because it might spoil the fun - although I think it's one of the least strong moments on the DVD).

Most YouTube clips I could find from Laïs are live clips with a terrible sound, or newer songs with a more modern sound, or the most "heavy" songs form their debut (like ''t Smidje'). The only song with a reasonable sound that was representative for their earlier sound was the one I mentioned. But if that one was still too harsh for your ears (I might have an idea to know what you mean: their voices are very dominating, very "present"?), then I can only say: I did my best... :D

@ Pat: you're welcome!

Blackmore's Night, yay!! I've been really into the songs World of Stone and 25 Years lately. I love the ancient sound of the pastoral oboe (I believe?) that Candice Night plays.

Do you mean up to and possibly including Moving Pictures?
If so I'm right with you, can you imagine the Baebes doing a cover of By-Tor and the Snow Dog!!!

If i were you I would err on the side of caution with Kathine Jenkins.
In my opinion she is a stunning looking woman, but I feel she is too throaty in her singing.
For a better exponent of that type ofSoprano you need look no further than Anna Netrebko.
She is beautiful and has the voice of an angel.

That really is a mixture of musical delights Zed Head.

Bucks Fizz and Dollar ?
That can only be that the music invokes some memories for you, surely.

By the way, i would like to add a few more to my list, as follows:
The Dandy Warhols
B52s
Dead Can Dance
Genesis ( Gabriel version)
Joy Division
Tindersticks
XTC
AC/DC
Emerson Lake and Palmer

Cheers

Strict Machine

Indeed Mistress Sparkles

I used to post on the Goldfrapp board a couple of years ago.

I think that it is nice that there should be a variety in everyones love of music.

I do note however that most people have stayed away from the mundane drivel that some of today's so called musicians and singers pass for music.

Ok , thats me off to BBC Radio Broadcasting house to catch a radio 4 comedy show.

Bye

I can`t really explain fizzy $ . I think it was a case of teenage lust and that
Sickly sweet pop sound that they both emitted. Bucks Fizz got better as their career came to a premature end when Jay Aston left :(

I like a bit of everything, really - from Enya to Slayer and everything in-between! Variety is the spice of life... :D

Particular non-Baebe related favourites (and it's great to see some of these have been mentioned already!) include:

Pink Floyd, Roger Waters, Marillion, Fish, The Church, Noctorum, Marty Willson-Piper, Steve Kilbey, All About Eve, Karnataka, Panic Room, Magenta, The Pineapple Thief, Breathing Space, Touchstone, Tori Amos, Kate Bush, Clannad / Moya Brennan, Genesis, Peter Gabriel, Hawkwind, Jean Michel Jarre, Mazzy Star, Porcupine Tree, Epica, After Forever, Metallica, Megadeth, Led Zeppelin, Nine Inch Nails, Goldfrapp, The Orb, Underworld, Future Sound Of London, Garbage, Iron Maiden, Lush, Portishead, Rush, R.E.M., Mastodon, Sirenia, Talk Talk, Tangerine Dream, Spock's Beard, Mike Oldfield, Girls Aloud, Lacuna Coil, Muse, Nightwish, Bat For Lashes, Secret Machines, Within Temptation...

Er, yes. I could go on for hours here, so I'll quit whilst I'm ahead. It's great to see what a wide variety of stuff everyone likes, though! :D

I am a huge fan of Medieval music. I have just reviewed L'Ensemble Deuxplus et Compagnie's new CD "Pelerinage": Mauerbrecher's "Brightest Heaven" and in our archives is "Ley's D'Amors" by Lilium Aeris. They are on http://midnightcalling.com/ More medieval music coming soon, and an interview with LVCVS.
